In A Place for Remembrance

What a delight to share your wonderful tribute to your Mom! Thank you, Hill boys, for sharing memories of Virginia triggering memories for many who spend time on this website. Virginia, my sister-in-law, and I were from similar and yet different backgrounds. After joining the Hill family in 1955 through marriage to Virginia's husband's youngest sibling, Reginal Hill, our families were close in proximity and in common interest in each others lives. We spent holidays together and Christmas celebration for years included time for the two Hill families to be together and sharing fun, good food (usually prepared and served by Virginia with great finesse), and presents. Gifts from Virginia on behalf of their family for myself and the others in my family always reflected a great deal of thought in the choices of those gifts. She had a good sense of what would be appreciated. Spending time with Virginia, Jack, and the boys at their place at Lake Murray were always special treats for us. Virginia always made special effort in preparing delicious meals and snacks for those occasions. Camping at the beach on one occasion along side their family in their fold down mobile camper and our family in our three room Ted Williams tent was great fun and made good memories for a poorly filmed 8mm video of breaking camp. I hope to post that video at some point on this website. Perhaps our family moving far away from Columbia prevented relationship between myself and Virginia from developing as deeply as I had wished. I guess I might have been a bit intimidated by Virginia. But I am grateful for the memories of Virginia, Jack, Tommie (sorry Tom), Steve, Gary, and Wesley particularly in their young family days and in periodic opportunities of being together. I am so pleased that she and I were able to spend time on the phone and in a couple of visits in her later years and express our love and appreciation of each other as part of the Hill Family. We were always interested in each others kids and grandkids and enjoyed sharing about their accomplishments and escapades. Rest in Peace, Virginia! Love, Sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Hill
